Bernie Bytes 6-30-11: Lance Berkman Is 1st Half MVP
The Cardinals (43-38) are exactly halfway through the 162-game schedule. In my opinion, the team's first-half MVP was Lance Berkman. He's an easy choice for obvious reasons, given the injuries to Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday.

Market For Cliff Lee Is Wide Open This Time
The Cliff Lee sweepstakes are somewhat democratic, as these things go.
Lee, depending upon when he is traded, will be owed between $3 million and $4.5 million in salary, a relatively modest sum that could draw in a larger number of clubs.

It was a lot different the last time, in 2008, when he returned as a Chicago Cub, wearing the uniform of the supposedly “hated” rival, and doing his part to lead the Cubs to the NL Central title. Cardinals fans put aside the Cubs factor and gave Edmonds a warm and loving ovation.
