The decisions the Cardinals ended up making before Tuesday’s deadline to set their roster had less to do with the roles a handful of prospects could play for them in the coming season than it did assuring they wouldn’t be in those roles with another team.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have selected the contracts of left-hander pitcher Genesis Cabrera (pronounced hen-e-sis), right-handed pitcher Ryan Helsley, outfielder Lane Thomas and infielder Ramón UrÃas from Memphis (AAA). The team also announced that they have designated for assignment right-handed pitchers Conner Greene and Derian Gonzalez. Today's transactions currently place the team's 40-man Major League roster at 40 players.

Tommy Edman Reunited With Memphis Teammates In Arizona Fall League
Typically, championship teams don't have reunions until years after they've won their title. For several members of the Memphis Redbirds, the Cardinals Triple-A affiliate that won not only the Pacific Coast League title, but the Triple-A National Championship as well, they only had to wait about a month.
