Out Of Options 2016

The following 40-man roster players have less than five years service time and are out of minor league options. That means they must clear waivers before being sent to the minors. I’ve included players on multiyear deals. This list was compiled through MLBTR’s sources when possible, but may be incomplete for some teams. I’ll update the post as confirmed information comes in.

Paul DeJong Named Appalachian State League Player Of The Week For Period June 22-28, 2015

(.500/.583/.850, 5 G, 10-for-20, 4 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB, 4 K)
The first couple of weeks after getting Drafted can be a whirlwind for young players. At least DeJong, a fourth-round pick this year out of Illinois State, is enjoying the ride. The right-handed-hitting third baseman hit a double in his first four games with Johnson City and went 3-for-3 with a walk in his fifth. DeJong had a .333/.427/.605 line with 14 homers and 15 doubles in 51 games during his final collegiate season, so it appears he's picked up where he left off with the Redbirds.

Alex Reyes Selected For 2015 Futures Game

A quick look at last year's SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game rosters should provide enough motivation to tune in to the prospect-laden game on All-Star Sunday, July 12, at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
St. Louis Official Site

St. Louis Cardinals prospect Alex Reyes has been named to the World Team roster for the upcoming All-Star Futures Game on July 12th. The 20-year old Reyes is currently on the 7-day disabled list, but has posted 90 strikeouts in 60.2 innings pitched this season for the Palm Beach Cardinals (High A). He has allowed just 10 earned runs combined in his last 10 appearances (50.1 innings).
STL Baseball Weekly

Right-handed pitcher Alex Reyes, one of the Cardinals’ top prospects, will be the organization’s only representative in the Futures Game, part of next month’s All-Star game festivities.

With all the recent focus on the upcoming 2014 MLB draft, let's not forget that the St. Louis Cardinals promoted top outfield prospect Oscar Taveras to the major leagues this past weekend. Obviously this is the perfect time to examine Taveras as Minor League Ball's Prospect of the Day.

Oscar Taveras Ranked #1, Stephen Piscotty #3, & Randal Grichuk #13 In Baseball America's Top 40 Corner Outfielders

After a nearly lost year due to ankle injuries, Taveras is still one of the best hitters in the minors, but after him, this list lacks the star power of the center field list. Admittedly, some of the center field prospects will likely end up moving to a corner eventually, but this list doesn’t have as much power as you would expect.
