Baseball’s winter meetings will take place Dec. 8-11 in San Diego. Under normal circumstances there would be a lot of anticipation going in, and that’s not to say there won’t be stirrings.

Trade Talks Between Cardinals & Indians May Happen This Offseason
Hey, Hoynsie: Given the Cardinals' enviable surplus of starters and relievers, do you think the Indians would be able to trade for some of their excess talent? Also, with Cards first baseman Allen Craig coming back next season from being injured this year, what do you think the Indians chances would be of trading for him or his replacement, Matt Adams? –- David Buck, St. Louis, Mo.
Hey, David: If you see the match, and I see the match, you can bet the Cardinals and Indians saw it developing a long time ago. The Indians, however, aren’t the only ones sizing up the Cardinals roster.

Cardinals Interleague Slate Features KC, AL East
The Cardinals won't want to hear it, but the schedule-makers appear to have done them a bit of a favor this year. Interleague Play will certainly bring St. Louis its fair share of challenges, but the Cards' slate of American League foes could be a lot worse.

Eduardo Sanchez: 260th Venezuelan In MLB
In a match with huge score (15-5) in favor of the St. Louis Cardinals, was the ideal time to test those sent for pitchers in the minor leagues. There was Eduardo Sanchez. A 22 year old pitcher, who just comes in his second season in Venezuela, Aragua Tigers would make his debut in the majors in an organization that has displayed few Creoles.

Probablistic Model Of Steals, Base Runners
Monday I introduced the idea of a Probabilistic Model of Steals. In that post, I looked at how the stage of the game, represented by the inning, changed the probability of attempting a steal, and the success rate on those attempts. Subsequent posts examined outs, the score difference and the combination of all three. This posts looks at base runners actual stolen base attempts compared to their expected stolen base attempts based on the model.

The 2009 Cardinals Anti-Awards
On the brink of Albert Pujols winning his third National League Most Valuable Player award, Cardinal Nation is fixated on trophies recognizing their players’ accomplishments. The 2009 roster is littered with eligible candidates in multiple categories, but along with all the accolades and impressive performances of the cream of the Cardinal crop, there is the sooty, briney residue that resides at the bottom of the barrel. Not all of this year’s Redbirds had seasons to write home about, so InsideSTL has created a series of awards showcasing the worst Cardinal performers of the 2009 season. Feel free to revel in their awfulness.

Stealing A Run
Arguably the most exciting play in baseball, the straight steal of home is rarely seen these days. It happens so infrequently that Jacoby Ellsbury successful attempt against Andy Pettitte became major news— although the Yankees / Red Sox rivalry probably has a little something to do with that. Not to be outdone, Jayson Werth accomplished the feat a little more than two weeks later, to somewhat less fanfare.

Mets' Corner Men
The Mets corner outfield positions were two of their biggest question marks coming into spring training but if the numbers put up so far by the players expected to fill those spots are any indication, perhaps those questions will be answered in a positive way. Coming into action Thursday, here are some of the stats put up by the Mets rightfield and leftfield candidates:

Second Guessing The Second Base Situation
In the recent four-game series, Cardinal castoff Edgar Gonzalez blasted his former organization with 15 total bases (8-for-18), an OBP of .474, SLG of .833 and a GPA of .422. Sunday, the Brewers dealt for the Giants’ Ray Durham, owner of a career .352 OBP. And Sunday afternoon, with the game tied and the bases loaded in the ninth inning, Aaron Miles hit a walkoff grand slam. What better entree into a discussion about the Cardinals’ second-base situation?
