College baseball has produced a galaxy of stars. The greatest hitter and pitcher of the last 50 years, Barry Bonds (Arizona State) and Roger Clemens (Texas), turned in memorable College World Series performances before entering pro ball. Last year's major award winners include Old Dominion's Justin Verlander (American League Cy Young), Stetson's Jacob deGrom (National League Cy Young) and Florida's Pete Alonso (NL Rookie of the Year).

Many scouts have stories of their encounters with Pujols, but it's harder to find those with tales from his amateur days. Here's one from Jay Darnell, now a pro scout with the Yankees. In 1999, when Pujols was at Maple Woods (Mo.) CC, he was the Rockies' Midwest crosschecker and saw him play once. But he'll never forget it.

'I've Never Seen Nothing Like That Before' Brayan Pena Blown Away By Jaime Garcia Against Mets
Jaime Garcia made his second start of the spring, and worked with new catcher Brayan Pena for the first time. The results were tremendous, as the lefty went 3.2 innings on 53 pitches, striking out two and allowing no runs.

If things are going well, Jaime Garcia is a friend to sportswriters on deadline, kids with fixed bed times and umpires charged with enforcing pace-of-play rules. He sometimes takes some getting used to if you’re his catcher.
ESPN
Jaime Garcia took the mound Thursday for his second Grapefruit League start this spring. It was much better than his first one, six days earlier.
