Can Jon Jay Sustain?

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay has been a pleasant surprise covering in right field for the injured Ryan Ludwick. Jay comes into the break with an NL-best 11-game hitting streak (17-for-37, .459) and has hit safely in every game he’s started this year (19-for-46, .413). He does not yet qualify for the NL rookie leader board, but among those with at least 40 at-bats, Jay is on top with a .377 average.

DG's 10@10: Albert Pujols' Place In History

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman and reigning league MVP Albert Pujols is only 1/10 of the way into the season and already he’s a spokesman and emblem for the city’s celebration of the 2009 All-Star Game. He’s got a commercial running in loops on ESPN. Three different film crews followed him around on the same day this past week for three different commercial ventures. He leads the league in RBIs and runs scored. He was called “the perfect player” by his manager on Thursday.

Gas House Gang's Don Gutteridge , 1912-2008

Don Gutteridge, the last living member of the Gas House Gang and the 1944 St. Louis Browns pennant-winning club, died Sunday at his Pittsburg, Kan., home, where he’s remembered as a “baseball icon” and a recent author. He was 96.
