Daniel Bard Is Willing To Endure The Frustration

It’s for the pure love of the game, it’s that, as Daniel Bard says, “I still know there’s something.” Something of what in 2010 might have been the best setup man in baseball, 98 MPH, a 1.93 earned run average, 76 strikeouts in 74 2/3 innings.

Series Preview: Cardinals @ Phillies (June 19-21, 2015)

St. Louisan Ryan Howard’s 12th home run on Thursday enabled the Phillies to end a nine-game losing streak, their longest in 16 years. Still, the faltering Phils have dropped 22 of their last 28.

That might be too much for the Phillies to handle, considering they just signed A.J. Burnett, but most importantly because Madson has not pitched in a big league game since 2011 because of right elbow surgery.

Phillies Talked With Masahiro Tanaka

Ownership authorized Ruben Amaro Jr. to pursue Tanaka, and the Phillies general manager engaged the righthander's agent in cursory negotiations. International scouting director Sal Agostinelli and Pacific Rim scout Steve Cohen watched Tanaka pitch and filed reports that labeled him a No. 2 or No. 3 starter in the majors - in other words, a perfect fit for this team.
