GAME OF THE WEEK: It must have been something in the air from the NFL Draft, as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees made the last-minute field goal in overtime, or rather the top of the 13th inning, to down the host Rochester Red Wings, 17-14, on Draft Saturday, April 25. Each team scored in eight of 13 innings and combined for 40 hits in the contest. For the Yankees, DH John Rodriguez had five hits and scored four runs, but it was third baseman Shelley Duncan who wielded the big bat, with six RBIs, including what would be a game-winning two-run double in the 13th. The Red Wings (Twins) got two homers each from second baseman Matt Macri and third baseman Luke Hughes as every member of their starting lineup had at least one hit. The Yankees, who had their 11-game winning streak snapped earlier this week, are now 14-1, best in the Minors.
NOTES OF NOTE: St. Louis catching prospect Steven Hill of the Double-A Springfield Cardinals was 11-for-21 (.524) in five games this week with three homers and seven RBIs, including a 5-for-5 game with three doubles and a homer, which tied the team record for hits in a game. His .435 average was sixth in the Minors.
