Johnson City Cardinals Notebook 7-4-11
Middle infielder Tyler Rahmatulla was 7-for-20 (.350) with one double, two triples, and one home run in six games this week. Rahmatulla leads the team in slugging (.600) and triples (2). He posted a .350/.435/.750 line this week.

Josh Lucas (1-0, 1.50 ERA) threw six innings on just 52 pitches Wednesday night in Kingsport. Lucas is fourth in the Appalachian League in walks plus hits per inning pitched (0.33).

Also signing recently was former WCU pitcher Kyle Deese, who elected to forego his final collegiate season and has been assigned to the Cardinals' Rookie league club in Johnson City, Tenn.

Kyle Deese Turned Down Rays In 15th Round Due To Money
“I was excited,” Deese said about being drafted. “I had a call around the 15th round from the Devil Rays, and I turned them down because they didn’t have much money for all the first-round draft picks they had. I was just hoping somebody else would get me and give me a better offer, and they did.”
