The general conception of the Cardinals is that they like their college players come Draft time. They've strayed from that from time to time, taking Peter Kozma in the first round back in 2007 and, of course, Colby Rasmus in '05. In the end, though, even those Draft classes followed the norm in terms of sheer numbers of advanced college talent.

Cardinals' Number Two Pick Prefers To Catch
USC catcher/pitcher Robert Stock, the Cardinals’ No. 2 pick in the amateur free-agent draft, knows that a doubting public is looking askance at his .226 average this season. But Stock also is smart enough to know that he has done better than that before and is likely to do so again when he is playing just one position at a time, rather than catching one day and pitching the next as he has done several times in his career.
