Under The Radar Trade Candidates With Cardinals
Forget Adam Jones and the persistent rumors linking him to the Tribe. Let the Phillies or Giants fight for his below-average offense (96 wRC+) and defense (-15 DRS) and pay the remaining $6 million or so for the 0.05 fWAR he’s on pace to accumulate over the last 60 games of the season.

Bird Bytes 6-26-18: Cardinals Rotation Rebound, Bullpen Calming, & Taking On Corey Kluber
John Gant threw at wonderful game at the Indians on Monday (as you know), with one infield hit allowed in seven shutout innings. He walked five, but easily navigated around the potential trouble, and the Indians had only one runner reach second base against Gant all evening. “He kept us off-balance,” Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. “I thought he just really pitched,” …

You Don't Have To Like It, But The Cardinals Have A Plan For Pitching
I’ve repeatedly expressed my concerns about the strength and depth of the Cardinals’ starting rotation for 2018. The word I keep coming back to is “vulnerable.”

Indians Interested In Re-Signing Austin Jackson
Austin Jackson also is a free agent. The Indians are interested in keeping him, but at the right price. Jackson has battled knee and other injuries and played 82 games last season. I keep hearing Bryan Shaw will sign a deal worth at least $7 million annually for at least three years with someone. It won't be Cleveland.

Justin Verlander & The Cardinals Are A Perfect Fit
August means one thing for playoff worthy baseball teams: get busy winning or get busy reloading for next year. If the St. Louis Cardinals want to silence the competition, adding a starter like Justin Verlander would put them over the top. Adding Verlander would be like picking up a shovel and throwing dirt on the rest of the division. Like stopping by Chuck Norris' house on the way to a bar fight. Like..okay, let's dig in.

Lance Lynn Checks Out Okay
Humor and sarcasm may not officially be part of the MLB concussion protocol, but they both suggested Lance Lynn was his usual self after the St. Louis Cardinals pitcher was hit in the head by a line drive in tonight’s 8-6 victory over Kansas City.

Yadier Molina Deserves To Be A Hall Of Famer
Tony La Russa won more games than all but two managers in baseball history -- Connie Mack and John McGraw -- and his teams won three World Series in 14 postseason appearances. But in a recent conversation with a friend, La Russa attributed the success in his last seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals to somebody else.

The hard-throwing, fast-rising top prospect in the Cardinals’ organization had served his suspension, stomached his name in headlines, and, finally, returned to the rotation, ready to resume his climb toward the majors. Time served. Lesson learned.
