Cardinals' Wininng Stretch Tests Carlos Martinez, Spurs Speech For Bullpen Reinforcements; Paul Goldschmidt Goes Where No Righty Has; For Maunan Kea; Extra Bases

A byproduct of the Cardinals’ series of wins so far this month has been a spike in workload for closer Carlos Martinez and a test of his durability, proficiency, and honesty in the role. Before calling on him to pitch the 10th inning for a save Monday, his manager and coaches asked him directly what he could offer them.

Cardinals Activated Mike Mayers From The Injured List, Designated Chasen Shreve For An Assignment, & Sent Matt Carpenter To Triple-A Memphis To Begin Rehab Assignment

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have activated right-handed reliever Mike Mayers (right shoulder lat strain) from the 60-day Injured List and designated left-handed reliever Chasen Shreve for assignment. The team also announced that infielder Matt Carpenter (right foot contusion) will begin an injury rehabilitation assignment tonight with the Memphis Redbirds (AAA).

The Cardinals shuffled their bullpen mix Tuesday by activating right-handed reliever Mike Mayers from the 60-day injured list and designating left-handed reliever Chasen Shreve for assignment.

Mike Mayers, who last pitched for the Cardinals in April, is back on the active roster.
