Matt Carpenter Feels 'Great' In Delayed Spring Debut

Matt Carpenter's slow, circuitous spring took a positive turn on Tuesday, out of the trainer's room, through the back alleys of Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium and into the batter's box. There, he game-tested a balky back while showing an eye in midseason form, walking twice in a Grapefruit League debut weeks in the making.

Michael Wacha Is Nailing Down Rotation Spot; Miguel Socolovich Strong; Cardinals Send Out 11, Including Marco Gonzales

Of the Cardinals’ starting and finishing pitchers Monday in a 6-3 win over Houston, one has had to re-establish himself and the other perhaps has had to remind those who make decisions just how good he has been.

All Pitches Working For Michael Wacha In Stellar Spring

All indications are that Michael Wacha is back to being the pitcher he was two years ago when the Cardinals' right-hander won 17 games in 30 starts before shoulder problems and a stint on the disabled list derailed his season last year.

Michael Wacha continues to look like Michael Wacha. Not the one you’re thinking of; the one whose compromised shoulder marginalized his best pitches and whose fastball drifted ever higher in the zone last season. He looks like Michael Wacha, the unflappable young star who once faced down a raucous PNC Park and out-dueled Clayton Kershaw in the same week of the 2013 postseason.

Marco Gonzales Is Back With A Little Extra

Lefthander Marco Gonzales, the Cardinals’ No. 1 draft pick in 2013, isn’t the first pitcher to go from prospect to almost suspect when he encounters his first significant injury. Gonzales’ 2015 season largely was a washout because of shoulder problems. But he’s back now.
