Trevor Rosenthal Hits 100 In First Action Since 2017

This was his first time on the mound in a big league game since August 2017 and Trevor Rosenthal wanted to ease back into things. Bernie Bits 2-20-19: Carlos Martinez Contract Trap

So, Carlos Martinez didn’t follow the prescribed offseason rehab plan for his problematic right shoulder. He went his own way and failed to fulfill his responsibility to get physically ready for spring training. There’s no telling when he’ll be able to pitch in real games. There’s no way to know, for sure, if he’ll be able to pitch effectively in 2019. His shoulder is weak. His act is weak. Cardinals Seek Bullpen Boost But Will Reserve Key Role For Jordan Hicks, Possibly Alex Reyes; Mariners Hire Paul Davis; Extra Bases

The compass the Cardinals used last year to steer their way through a series of reliever signings that started with Luke Gregerson, included Bud Norris and peaked with All-Star closer Greg Holland was to keep the contracts short because they knew where the ninth was eventually headed.

Chip Hale & Derek Lilliquist Returning For 2019 Season As Coaches On Nationals Staff

During their first year in Washington, Nationals manager Dave Martinez and his staff endured their share of growing pains during what was a disappointing 2018 season. However, the Nats' front office insisted all year that the coaching staff was not solely to blame for the underachieving team, and they are prepared to give the coaches another chance.

Dave Martinez To Evaluate Nationals Coaching Staff Following The Season

Lilliquist, a former big league pitcher, spent the previous 16 years in the St. Louis system. He became the Cardinals’ bullpen coach in 2011 and was named the pitching coach during the following season. His name doesn’t come up much in interviews with Washington pitchers, for better or worse.

Where Do The Cardinals Go From Here?

On Monday night, the Cardinals managed to climb back into a game that started out with Miles Mikolas handing the Phillies a four run first inning lead. They struck out eighteen times along the way and blew a chance to tie it up in the 8th, but they made it back. Then they took a 10th inning lead on a Tommy Pham home run.

Dear Cardinals: An Open Letter Asking For Direction

What's the plan? Sell or buy. Figure it out. Fans pay good money to see a contender, not a remnant of the past. If you are rebuilding with youth, just say it. If you are stocking young arms, but going for the big sluggers as well, show us your money.
