Playing 162 games in a baseball season can be grueling, and when the summer days get long, sometimes the best pick-me-up is a good laugh.

NLCS Game Six: Michael Wacha's Outing Outsizes Cy's
Just prior to NLCS Game 2, a couple of our Indiana-based relatives — at the risk of giving our St. Louis readers the wrong impression, they are “Hoosiers” in the proper sense — with whom we watched the game asked who the better pitcher was, Michael Wacha or Clayton Kershaw. What our relatives lack in baseball knowledge, they make up for in their passion for basketball, so we could forgive them for not knowing the answer to such a facile question: Kershaw, of course, he of an MLB-topping 6.5 WAR and a microscopic 2.39 FIP that will surely help him to his second Cy Young Award. Wacha was merely a rookie, abeit a very talented rookie, who at the time was making only his 11th big-league start.

Having dispatched the Dodgers with a 9-0 NLCS Game 6 blowout on Friday night, St. Louis is positioned well not only to win the World Series but also for the chance to win more over the next decade as well.
