Third In Line? Despite 'Lost Year,' Elehuris Montero Can Establish Bat First, Position Later

The only member of the hitting group not expected to contribute in the majors this season, Elehuris Montero stepped into the batting shell on the field farthest from the Cardinals’ spring clubhouse and had one swing to do what the others could not.

Here Are The Cardinals' 2020 Top 30 Prospects

The Cardinals made one of the biggest offseason moves last year when they acquired six-time All-Star Paul Goldschmidt from the D-backs for a trio of young players. In the end, however, it was Cardinals’ contingent of homegrown talent that fueled the team to a National League Central title and the organization’s first postseason berth since 2015, as Jack Flaherty, Kolten Wong, Paul DeJong and Tommy Edman ultimately paced the team in Wins Above Replacement.

When he shakes your hand, it’s not that his hand engulfs yours due to its size, it’s that his hand immerses yours because of its girth and grip. It’s as if the slugger’s hands are made out of the same stuff as his Louisville Slugger.

Conner Capel Growing With The Cardinals

To reflect back on July 31, 2018, Cardinals fans will think of it as the day the team traded Tommy Pham to the Rays in a deal that is still hard to get behind more than a year later. On the same day, in a move that (in a sense, due to roster capacity) stemmed off the Pham trade, St. Louis sent Oscar Mercado to the Indians for prospects. One of those prospects is Conner Capel, and he has really settled in to his new organization.
