What I Miss About Sports Today - References To Cardinals History During Games

I miss the daily doses of nostalgia. They were reliable and refreshing. Watching a game, listening to a game, going to game, covering a game, every experience includes little links to St. Louis’ past. Casual references to players who once played. Instant analysis of a play by comparing it to a famous play. Looking at looks – from locks to socks – that remind us of how previous Cardinals looked.

Series Preview: Cubs @ Cardinals April 2-5, 2017

The Cardinals will play their season opener at home for the first time since 2011. And they’ll be working on a five-game losing streak, having lost to San Diego in 2011, Pittsburgh in 2009, Colorado in 2008, New York in 2007 and Milwaukee in 2006, meaning they never have won a season opener at Busch Stadium III, which opened in 2006.

Could Tigers Look At Jim Edmonds?

That desire pretty much precluded them from any major role for Jim Thome. It doesn't necessarily preclude them from pursuing a veteran, 30-something outfielder such as Johnny Damon or Jim Edmonds.

Holliday Season

I have to admit that the first time I heard the rumor about Ryan Ludwick and Matt Holliday being the principals of a trade I thought to myself, "Maybe this is a pretty good idea." I’ve long been an opponent of trading for Holliday b/c I was under the impression that we would necessarily have to include Rasmus in any deal. The idea of acquiring Holliday w/o Rasmus was somewhat of a relief to me.

The Positives

I know there’s been a recent uprising of optimism about the Cardinals’ chances of at least remaining competitive in the National League Central Division this season, primarily as a result of their strong showing over the final two weeks of spring training, but I’m still penciling this team in for no more than 75 wins.
