Faced daily this week with further questions about the culture of his club and allegations of the high-tech swindling of signs, Houston general manager Jeff Luhnow, surrounded by a gaggle of reporters, said he’s concerned all the focus will be on whether or not the Astros spy the waggling of opponents’ fingers and not the rings they wear on theirs.

The drumbeat of the draft had, at this point, long since lost the hip-hop of the early rounds and was settling into a monotone list of names and positions and the occasional dial tone. Despite all the picks made, the scout had yet to have a player from his area selected.
