Matt Stairs was a lefthanded-hitting outfielder, first baseman and pinch hitter who played 20 seasons in the major leagues for 13 different clubs. He was only 5-foot-9 but 210 pounds’ worth, and he wasn’t shy about saying that he tried to hit a home run every time he came to the plate. That worked 265 times for Stairs, who reached double figures in home runs 12 times, including a high of 38 for Oakland in 1999.
