The Washington Nationals on Wednesday inexplicably released enigmatic outfielder Elijah Dukes. As a righthanded hitter with a vague idea of how to play center field, he has qualities that the Cardinals have a theoretical use for, if not necessarily a practical one. After seeing that he was released, I pounded out a tweet to the effect that I thought the Cardinals ought to kick the tires on Dukes.
