Ex-Cardinal Watch 3-10-08

Coco Crisp (groin) did not take batting practice today and said he did not know when he’d be able to resume baseball activities. Crisp, who has played in only two spring games, none since March 2, had some treatment for the injury today.

Daric Barton(Athletics):
Daric Barton, the rookie who's projected as the A's starting first baseman this season, returned to the lineup with a bang on Monday after missing eight straight starts with soreness on the side of his left hand.

Mike Maroth(Royals):
Maroth is a bit behind because of a stiff shoulder but, after pitching in a "B" game on Sunday, he's about ready for Cactus League action. He started out throwing softly on Sunday, but by the end of his outing his pitches were up around 85, 86 mph. That's just a couple of miles per hour shy of his normal speed. With Maroth, of course, everything is getting the pitches to work and hitting his spots as he did so well for years with the Tigers. The Royals already are impressed by his edgy determination and work ethic.

Dmitri Young(Nationals):
Young (pulled muscle in his left side) played in another Minor League game and went 2-for-2 with a walk. He also played first base for the first time. Young received a handful of putouts, but didn't get any chances.

Sidney Ponson(Rangers):
Ponson threw a bullpen session on Monday, but the Rangers aren't sure when he'll be ready to pitch in a game.
