MLB Europe's All-Stars Compete In St. Petersburg/No-Hitter Vs. Puerto Rico

A European All-Star team full of prospects is currently competing in a Spring Training tournament in Florida alongside teams from all over the world. MLB Europe assembled the team (see roster below), which is coached by Andy Berglund, Martijn Nijhoff and Bill Holmberg among others. Nine different countries are represented.

MLB European Elite Camp Exposure In The Media: Haarlems Dagblad

Monne Reitsma was one of the Dutch journalists who attended MLB press conference,which was held yesterday in Pioniers stadium prior to the first MLB Elite Camp in Hoofddorp. Reitsma wrote an extensive article for his newspaper Haarlems Dagblad and quoted MLB coaches Barry Larkin and Steve Finley.

2013 MLB European Academy Opens Up In Regensburg, Germany

The 9th annual MLB European Academy opened today in Regensburg, Germany at the Armin Wolf Arena. 50 of Europe’s best young players are attending the Academy, including recent MLB signings Artur Strzalka (New York Yankees), Sven Schuller (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Julsan Kamara (Philadelphia Phillies). The MLB European Academy will run through August 16, putting the players through a Major League style “Spring Training” program which includes a full schedule of games.

Major League Baseball Holds Tryouts In Krc, Czech Republic

Major League Baseball held tryouts this week at the Eagles Praha Baseball Club in Krc, Czech Republic. Fifty-two athletes, ages 15-19, and selected by the Czech Republic national baseball federation, represented the top cadet and junior national team talent from the Czech Republic on Wednesday, May 4th. Sixty-two athletes, representing baseball clubs from Lithuania, Ukraine, Austria, France, Poland and Slovakia, attended the first session on Tuesday, May 3rd.

Pirates Sign Lithuanian Pitcher & Australian Catcher

The Pirates signed two more international players, including their first European amateur.

The latter is pitcher Dovydas Neverauskas, 16, of Lithuania. A 6-foot-3, 170-pound right-hander, he will start in the Florida Instructional League this fall.

The other is catcher Dylan Child, 18, from Australia. A 6-foot-1, 181-pound converted shortstop, Child will start at MLB's academy in his home country.

The Pirates' international total for signings is eight, and, by adding Europe, they now have signed at least one player from each of the six populated continents under new management.
