It Will Be Christmas Cardinals Again On FOX Sports Midwest

A Cardinals Christmas marathon has become a tradition at Fox Sports Midwest, and on Wednesday it is set to show condensed versions of five key Redbirds games from last season. It will be the ninth consecutive year of FSM’s holiday Birds Bash.

Cardinals backup catcher Matt Wieters got onto the field Wednesday for the first time since suffering a straining left calf muscle on Aug. 31. All he had to do was to pinch hit against three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer.

Individual Highlights:
Kolten Wong started at second base and batted second.  2-for-4 with one stolen base, one strikeout, one caught stealing, and assisted in one double play.
Matt Carpenter started at third base and batted fifth.  1-for-2 with one double and one throwing error.
Paul DeJong started at shortstop and batted seventh.  1-for-3 with one double, one RBI, one run, one strikeout, and assisted in one double play.
Tommy Edman started in right field and moved to second base, batting eighth.  2-for-3 with one home run, two RBIs (one w/two-outs), two runs, one strikeout, and one outfield assist.
Matt Wieters entered late in the game as a pinch hitter and batted ninth.  1-for-1 with one home run, two two-out RBIs, and one run.
Adam Wainwright started and pitched seven innings.  He allowed eight hits, one unearned run, one walk, and struck three out for the winning decision (13-9).  0-for-2 with one strikeout.  (p-s:97-69)(g/f:12-2)
Carlos Martinez entered in the eighth and pitched 1.1 innings.  He allowed no hits or runs for the save (21).  (p-s:16-11)(g/f:4-0)

Rough Outing:
Paul Goldschmidt started at first base and batted third.  0-for-3 with one walk, two strikeouts, and assisted in one double play.
Marcell Ozuna started in left field and batted fourth.  0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
Yadier Molina started at catcher and batted sixth.  0-for-3 with one strikeout.
