Jed Lowrie, In Leg Brace, Non-Committal About 2020

Almost a year to the day after initially feeling soreness in the back of his left knee, Jed Lowrie reported to Mets camp Sunday wearing a bulky brace that ran nearly two feet from his left ankle up to his mid-thigh. He fielded ground balls and made a few throws at second base before leaving to prepare for New York’s first day of full-squad workouts Monday.

Pablo Sandoval Drawing Trade Calls, But Here's Why Giants Might Think Twice

As crazy as this would have sounded a couple of years ago, you can argue that no Giant has been showered with more love this season than Pablo Sandoval.

In Game 4 of the World Series, Dodgers lefthander Rich Hill took the mound in the seventh inning after absolutely silencing Red Sox bats, holding them to one hit. He walked leadoff hitter Xander Bogaerts and then struck out Eduardo Nunez.

Rich Hill, the fourth starter in the current Dodgers rotation, stepped up like a World Series hero in Game 4 on Saturday night, spinning a one-hitter for 6 1/3 innings before the bullpen collapsed against the Red Sox, who rallied for a 9-6 win and a 3-1 Series lead.

Why Is Eduardo Nunez Getting So Much Playing Time?

The Boston Red Sox have a strong analytics department, as well as baseball minds that far surpass my own. Perhaps they have a strong rationale behind starting Eduardo Núñez in the postseason as often as they have, because doing so for the platoon advantage is not a reason I find to be convincing, and that has not always been the case either.

Craig Kimbrel Might Be A Problem

The Boston Red Sox advanced to the ALCS on Tuesday night, but Craig Kimbrel nearly gave Red Sox fans a heart attack in the process. Alex Cora put him in to protect a a three-run lead in the ninth inning, and Kimbrel nearly blew it. He gave up two runs on one single, two walks, and one HBP. His control was terrible, throwing just 13 strikes on 28 pitches. It was one of the ugliest saves a pitcher can get.

Luke Voit's Two Homers Deny Red Sox Chance To Clinch

This is a different Yankees team than the fatigued group that rolled their bags out of Fenway Park following a fourth straight loss in early August, as the Red Sox have learned through the first 18 innings of their visit. Moving closer to full strength with some fresh faces mixed in, these division rivals would almost certainly make for a compelling postseason series.

Tempers flared early. Steve Pearce homered yet again. Mookie Betts played second base for the first time in four years. There were storylines galore in the latest chapter of Red Sox-Yankees on Friday night at Fenway Park. But Red Sox manager Alex Cora wanted to emphasize the story from his red-hot team's 4-1 victory.

If Teams Want Bud Norris, Cardinals Sgould Make A Deal & Let Jordan Hicks Close Games

Every year near baseball’s trade deadline, teams fill needs. Big stars like J.D. Martinez and Manny Machado get moved and usually a contender needs a catcher like Jonathan Lucroy or Martin Maldonado. Utility guys like Eduardo Nunez or Astrubal Cabrera get traded at the deadline every year. Most years, a big-name starter such as Justin Verlander, Sonny Gray, J.A. Happ or Cole Hamels get traded, too. But every year, EVERY team needs bullpen help.
