Elias soon unveiled his three-pronged approach to rebuilding the Orioles into a sustained winner, with plans to build an “elite talent pipeline” through scouting, analytics and player development. Coming off a franchise-worst 115-loss season, Elias did not run from how massive a task that seemed at the time, and has not since.

Astros Fired Dan Radison

The firings continue for the Astros. Laid off in the latest round were minor league coaches Joel Chimelis and Dave Borkowski, scout Noel Gonzalez and coordinator Dan Radison, who’d been there for a long time. The Astros declined to confirm, just as they declined to say whether it was eight scouts or nine fired in the first round. One rival remarked, “Can you believe the Astros were this good with so many substandard employees?”
