There have been times in these early games when veteran switch-hitter Dexter Fowler has gone to the plate, checked where his hands are as he sets to swing, checked his feet, checked his timing and rocked in sync with the pitcher. He’s recognized the pitch, its oncoming path over the middle of the plate — right down the boulevard of the strike zone — and readied himself to uncoil for a swing.
