Cardinals Released Matt Pearce & Austin Sexton; Giants Released Robert Calvano

Matt Pearce was selected in the 2014 amateur draft in the 13th round.  He spent five season in the St. Louis system, making stops at Rookie-Level Johnson City, Single-A Peoria, Double-A Springfield, and Triple-A Memphis.  The 25-year old right-hander was suspended 50 games last March for failing a second drug test.  He did hurl this past winter in the Venezuelan League for Caracas.  He compiled a 36-41 record, 3.50 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and struck out 377 over 570.2 career innings.

Austin Sexton was selected in the 2016 amateur draft in the 18th round.  He spent three seasons in the St. Louis system, making stops at Rookie-Level Johnson City, Single-A Peoria, A-Advanced Palm Beach, and Double-A Springfield.  The 24-year old right-hander compiled a 8-7 record, 3.57 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, struck out 118 over 126 career innings.

Robert Calvano spent three seasons in the St. Louis farm system before being released.  The 26-year old right-hander pitched for Kansas City in the independent American Association and signed a minor league deal with the San Francisco Giants during the offseason.
