The Dominican Summer League clubs had some of the best
offense that I have personally seen since I started covering. There was plenty of power and plenty of speed
to get excited about this season. Lots
of names to keep an eye on as the next couple of years progress. The offense was a big reason these two teams
finished above .500 and pushed for the postseason.

The month of June saw Sander Mora, Diomedes Del Rio, Joerlin
De Los Santos, Carlos Soler, Darlyn Del Villar, and various others rack up the
hits. The returning Cristhian Longa led
the way with homers, Yowelfy Rosario doubled his way, and Del Rio held down the
three-baggers. Freddy DeJesus, Jean
Selmo, Del Rio, and Pablo Gomez pushed the runs home. De Los Santos and Franklin Soto ran the
bases. Luis Montano was the strikeout
king.

As Del Rio left for Florida, Malcom Nunez was signed and he delivered
in July. Nunez led the way in AVG,
doubles, homers, and RBIs. Soler
continued a strong season into the second month and was also promoted. Montano nearly had as many walks as
strikeouts. De Los Santos kept swiping
bases with Soto not far behind. Selmo,
Adanson Cruz, and Soto showed a great deal of improvements at the plate. Mora went the other way and dropped over .200
points in his AVG.

De Los Santos finished outpacing Nunez in the AVG department
for the final month of the season. But
Nunez did slug the most homers and drive in the most runs. Darlin Moquete turned things around the lead
the way in hits, runs scored, and stolen bases.
Francisco Hernandez improved almost .100 points at the plate.

When looking at the final numbers, I see two players that
stick out the most in Nunez and De Los Santos.
De Los Santos was strong in the speed department and put in an extra
month more than Nunez. But Nunez came in
and left with a bang. He led in homers,
RBIs, OBP, SLG, AVG, and OPS and this comes after missing the first month of
the season. Amazing. My choice for 2018 Dominican Summer League
Player of the Year goes to Malcom Nunez.
2018 DSL Reliever of the Year: Leonardo Taveras
