Cardinals Activated Carlos Martinez From The Disabled List, Claimed Matt Adams Off Waivers From Nationals, Optioned Patrick Wisdom To Triple-A Memphis, & Transferred Dexter Fowler From Ten-Day To 60-Day Disabled List

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today they have activated RHP Carlos Martínez from the 10-day disabled list and claimed former Cardinals 1B Matt Adams off waivers from the Washington Nationals. Infielder Patrick Wisdom was optioned to Memphis (AAA) following last night's game and OF Dexter Fowler was moved from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

A search to better balance their roster for the stretch run led the Cardinals to a familiar face. Matt Adams, who spent parts of nine years in the organization, is bringing his left-handed power bat back to St. Louis after a 15-month tour through the National League East.

As far back as spring training, the Cardinals front office acknowledged how right-leaning and right-heavy the team's outfield and bench was for the coming season. The officials would openly muse about wanting the kind of lefthanded bat for the bench that they once had.
