The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight's series opener with San Diego that they have purchased the contract of rookie right-handed pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon from Memphis (AAA). The club also announced that first baseman Luke Voit was optioned to the triple-A Redbirds following yesterday's game.

Last May, Daniel Poncedeleon lay on the ground on a Triple-A field in Iowa, that close to his Major League dreams and suddenly fighting for his life. On Monday, he walked into the Cardinals' clubhouse, capping a remarkable recovery and one of the best comeback stories in baseball this year.
