The Cardinals will try yet another fresh arm in their bullpen, this time adding right-hander Josh Lucas to the roster on Saturday in place of Mike Mayers, who was optioned back to Triple-A Memphis after the team's win on Friday.

The plan, going into the eighth inning with an eight-run lead, was to give rookie Mike Mayers a chance to showcase his successful transition from starter to reliever. Mayers had taken a bruising in previous major-league appearances and here was one -- low-leverage, six outs, there for the taking.
