As the Cardinals attempted to solve one of the biggest, nagging riddles of their wayward season, they tried a little bit of everything, from pushing back batting practice to cancelling it, from mixing up pregame routines to even, a few times, setting the players’ report time to mimic one from the road. Despite those efforts, there was one thing they never could change this season and must accommodate for next season.
