Matt Holliday, Seth Maness To Have Surgery; Jordan Walden & Brayan Pena Will Begin Rehab Assignments At A-Advanced Palm Beach This Weekend

Seth Maness, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list ahead of the Cardinals' series opener in Houston on Tuesday, will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on Thursday. Outfielder Matt Holliday will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a fractured right thumb.

The Cardinals’ ever-growing list of injured players added a new name this week when the team announced reliever Seth Maness would be lost for the season when he undergoes Tommy John surgery on his right elbow this week.

No longer able to pitch because of a bothersome right elbow, Seth Maness will undergo Tommy John surgery on Thursday to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament. The procedure will not only end Maness' season, it jeopardizes 2017, as pitchers typically require a 12- to 15-month recovery.
