The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight's game that they have purchased the contract of rookie right-handed pitcher Alex Reyes from Memphis (AAA) and placed right-handed pitcher Michael Wacha (right shoulder inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list. To make room for Reyes on the team's 40-man Major League roster, the team transferred catcher Brayan Peña (left knee inflammation) from the 15-day D.L. to the 60-day D.L.

The wait for top prospect Alex Reyes is over, as the Cardinals announced on Tuesday that they will purchase his contract while placing starter Michael Wacha on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Alex Reyes has never wanted to be a top prospect. That label is nice, but ultimately uninteresting to him. Prospects don’t get to play in Busch Stadium. They don’t get audiences of more than 40,000 screaming their name. That’s reserved for a select list of 25 guys at a time.
