Plenty Of Surprises At Quarter Mark Of Season

The baseball season has passed the quarter point amid its usual array of surprises and disappointments, with the Philadelphia Phillies clearly winning the former category. The Phils, the majors’ worst team last year, are coming off a 99-loss season and have a cleanup hitter, St. Louisan Ryan Howard, batting just .168 despite his predictable success earlier this month at Busch Stadium.
