Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong, who banged his head making a stellar defensive play Tuesday in Chicago, went through his final set of concussion protocols both on and off the field Thursday afternoon. He then entered Thursday night’s game as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, singled and stayed in the game.

Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter began Thursday’s game at .266, down from .323 on June 1. Since that date, he had gone 20 for 106 (.189) with four doubles.
