The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight's series opener with the San Diego Padres that they have placed outfielder Jon Jay (left wrist stress reaction/bone bruise) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 1, and have recalled left-handed pitcher Tim Cooney from Memphis (AAA). Cooney, who yesterday was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team, is slated to make the start for St. Louis in tonight's game.
