Carlos Villanueva Makes Team, Hinting Carlos Martinez As Fifth Starter

With Carlos Villanueva's decision day looming, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak and manager Mike Matheny met with the veteran reliever to reveal their plans with him and the opening-night bullpen.

Today was the day the Cardinals had to make a decision on reliever Carlos Villanueva. His contract called for an out clause if he wasn't going to be a part of the 25-man roster heading north to Chicago. Walking into the clubhouse and seeing his name on the list of pitchers scheduled to throw today provided a clue to the ultimate decision.
