Especially after the 1960s style arms race that was the trade deadline, nobody would confuse Justin Masterson or John Lackey with champion thoroughbreds. But both pitchers do have experience as steeds. The Cleveland Indians rode Masterson to the second wild card just a year ago, and Lackey was an ace during his days with the Angels.
