Springfield’s opening day second baseman, Starlin Rodriguez, was demoted to high Class A Palm Beach on Thursday, with plans to start playing in the outfield.
He was batting .250, down 50 points from his finish last year at Palm Beach.
Rodriguez didn’t have the softest hands at second base, but his future — at least in the Cardinals system — figured to shift to the outfield anyway, given 2011 first-round pick Kolten Wong, a second baseman, is in Triple-A Memphis.
