MRI Reveals Ligament Tear In Jason Motte's Elbow; Surgery A Possibility

A magnetic resonance imaging exam taken of Jason Motte’s right elbow on Tuesday revealed a low-grade tear of the ligament, which, if it doesn’t show improvement over the next three weeks, will require season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Cardinals closer Jason Motte isn’t on the operating table _ yet. But unless the righthander shows some significant healing by May 1 from what an MRI exam performed Tuesday showed to be a low-grade tear in his ligament, he will have Tommy John surgery, general manager John Mozeliak said tonight.
