Day 41: Cardinals @ Marlins

Carlos Beltran was expected to be in the lineup today following his World Baseball Classic absence, but it appears that his right toe injury is going to keep him off the field for a bit longer. Beltran said yesterday that the toe (which was bruised by a pitch just before he left for the Classic) bothered him throughout the international tournament. It hurt when he played right field, he said, and when he swings a bat from the right side (full story here). Manager Mike Matheny is scheduled to meet with the media this morning and should be able to shed additional light on Beltran’s status.
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina will make his return to the lineup this afternoon against the Miami Marlins.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny did a flip-flop at the top of his lineup to get infielder Matt Carpenter into yet another new role he might see this season.

Just over a week remains before the Cardinals start the 2013 regular season in Arizona and they now can say everyone is back in camp. Yadier Molina and Carlos Beltran returned yesterday following their stint in the World Baseball Classic.
