Cardinals Select Kolten Wong With First Pick

The St. Louis Cardinals selected University of Hawaii second baseman Kolten Wong with their first overall selection in the 2011 First Year player draft. Wong has also started games at second, catcher and centerfield during his time at Hawaii.
The Cardinals, picking 22nd tonight in the first-year player draft, chose University of Hawaii second baseman Kolten Wong in the first round.

With the 22nd-overall pick, the Cardinals went with Hawaii second baseman Kolten Wong. Wong will be a spark plug at the top of the lineup that one scout said is the best pure hitter in the draft outside of Anthony Rendon.

The Cardinals do not exactly make it a secret that one of the factors they use in evaluating top candidates in the annual baseball draft is how that player performed in the Cape Cod summer league.
The Cardinals shouldn't have much trouble convincing Hawaii second baseman Kolten Wong to skip his senior season and begin his professional career.
