The club optioned shortstop Pete Kozma to Triple-A Memphis and pitcher Maikel Cleto to Double-A Springfield on Friday. To replace them, the Cardinals recalled first baseman/outfielder Mark Hamilton from Memphis and purchased the contract of third baseman Matt Carpenter from Memphis.
The Cardinals today recalled first baseman Mark Hamilton in addition to purchasing the contract of third baseman Matt Carpenter from Triple-A Memphis.
Understandably so, Matt Carpenter didn't get much sleep last Thursday night.
After finding out from Triple-A Memphis manager Chris Maloney that he had been promoted to the Cardinals, the 25-year-old Carpenter had trouble counting down the hours until his flight to St. Louis.
