Last Cardinals Bullpen Job Miguel Batista's To Lose; Sore Groin Limits, But Doesn't Sideline Nick Punto; Jason Motte Tries To Make Most Of Sinker; Ect

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is fond of saying that no player's job is completely safe. If, say, somebody is better than Chris Carpenter, then that somebody will take Carpenter's spot in the St. Louis rotation. The truth, though, is a little different. Some players are safer than others.
Infielder Nick Punto downplayed the soreness that manager Tony La Russa was less apt to dismiss Sunday.

St. Louis Cardinals reliever Jason Motte calls it "babying it." Other pitchers have described it as "steering the pitch", trying to "place the pitch" or, a favorite, "guide it."
