Manager Tony La Russa agreed that of all the youth on his bench it was important to get rookie Allen Craig into the lineup. Accustomed to being in a starting role with an everyday position in the batting order, Craig is in the majors now as a bench bat for a team that has a rather static lineup, especially for a La Russa club.
