Cardinals manager Tony La Russa held court this morning against a wind-swept backdrop that no longer included the Field One batter’s eye. A persistent hard wind knocked down the green tarp, forcing La Russa to relocate a morning intra-squad game to an adjacent field. In keeping with his spring, projected Opening Day starter Chris Carpenter is scheduled to throw live batting practice on another “miserable” day for pitching. This will be the third consecutive time Carpenter has worked in conditions poorly suited for a pitcher developing feel for his off-speed assortment.
