From a contractual standpoint Adam Wainwright may win a Cy Young Award one year too early.
Under terms of the multi-year contract Wainwright signed in March 2008, the final two seasons of the righthander's deal automatically vest if he finishes among the top five in balloting for the award in 2010 or 2011. There is no such stipulation if he ranks that high for this season's award.
