The P-DQ: Coco Crisp, Grady Sizemore, & Nate McLouth

Back in 2001, two years after the St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the seventh round of the June draft, an athletic outfielder by the name of Covelli Crisp won the organization’s player of the year award. He hit .306 that season in High-A, with 80 runs scored and 39 stolen bases.

The biggest swing and miss of my preseason predictions, as any of my friendly and oh-so supportive colleagues are bound to tell you, was picking the Cleveland Indians to play in the World Series. My pick was based on two things: The Indians smart addition of two former Chicago Cubs that fit their team — closer Kerry Wood and that one guy, Mark DeRosa — and the presence of Grady Sizemore.

A deserving All-Star and a surprise Gold Glove winner a year ago, center fielder Nate McLouth simply became a symbol this season.
