Memphis Redbirds Sweep, Take American Conference Championship

Evan MacLane was sent home from Albuquerque on Thursday for the sole purpose of getting a good night's sleep.

The 26-year-old left-hander was scheduled to be the Redbirds starter for Friday night's Game 3 of their best-of-five Pacific Coast League American Conference championship series against Albuquerque. With his teammates not returning to Memphis until late Friday afternoon -- with just a couple of hours of sleep after their thrilling come-from-behind win in Game 2 Thursday night -- MacLane knew it was up to him to close out the series.

Though it was a relatively quiet night of baseball at the plate, the Redbirds got all they needed in Friday's 1-0 win over Albuquerque to crown the team as PCL American Conference champions.
